Kans Capital invests over US$35 million to acquire a minority stake in Lottus Education to fuel expansion

Mexico City – December 5, 2024 – Mexican private equity firm Kans Capital proudly announces an investment of over US$35 million in Lottus Education, a leading educational services platform in Mexico. The investment aims to strengthen both its on-site and digital footprint in existing regions and support its entry into new markets.

Lottus has a strong presence in Mexico City, Estado de México, Guadalajara, and Coahuila. The company operates renowned institutions, including Universidad Tres Culturas, Universidad Latinoamericana, Universidad Americana del Noreste, and Universidad Tecnológica de Guadalajara, among others.

According to the National Association of Universities and Higher Education Institutions (ANUIES), higher education in Mexico has experienced a steady growth over the past decade, with a CAGR of 3.2%, a trend expected to continue favoring private higher education enrollment. During the 2023-2024 academic year, approximately 5.3 million students enrolled in higher education, with nearly 2.0 million attending private universities.

Kans Capital Acquires Majority Stake in Two Marriott-Branded Hotels in Stamford, Connecticut, for Over $30 Million

Stamford, Connecticut, November 12, 2024 – Kans Capital, a Mexican private equity firm, announced a transaction worth over $30 million to acquire a majority stake in two Marriott-branded hotels in Stamford, Connecticut, totaling more than 270 rooms. This move is part of the firm’s strategy to acquire premium assets that generate consistent cash flows in high-demand markets.

“Our investment broadens Kans Capital’s portfolio through cross-border diversification, strengthening our footprint in the United States. This transaction also reinforces our commitment to creating long-term value through strategic investments”, said Adriana Sandoval, Strategy & Investments Founding Managing Partner at Kans Capital.

Over the past decade, Stamford has experienced consistent growth, becoming Connecticut's second-largest city and a hub for major corporations in the financial, technology, and media sectors. Additionally, its proximity to New York City has fueled a steady demand for high-quality accommodations, catering to both corporate and leisure travelers, with these Marriot-branded properties well-positioned to serve both audiences.

With its strong global reputation, the Marriott brand enhances these hotels’ appeal benefiting from the extensive Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program, which connects over 190 million members worldwide.

According to Euromonitor, Marriott International led U.S. hotel retail sales value in 2023 with a 23.0% share, and the U.S. hotel market is projected to surpass $200 billion in retail sales value by 2028, reflecting a compounded annual growth rate of 3.4% from the 2023 baseline.

Kans Capital will retain Janus Hotels as the operator of these properties, ensuring continuity in management and guest services. Janus Hotels, which manages over 35 hotels across the United States, including 15 Marriott-branded properties, brings extensive experience in managing premium brands and upholding Marriott’s service standards

Grupo Carolo Secures USD $30+ Million Investment from Kans Capital to Fuel Expansion

Mexico City – July 31th, 2024 – Grupo Carolo, a leading name in the Mexican culinary scene with its flagship brands Blanco, Carolo, Casa Ó, La Popular, and Farina, among others, announces an investment exceeding US$30 million from the Mexican private equity fund Kans Capital. This strategic partnership is set to accelerate the expansion of Grupo Carolo, particularly in the United States, through the brands of Eureka Restaurant Group: Eureka!, La Popular, and Amalfi Llama.

Grupo Carolo owns and operates over 60 restaurants in the United States and Mexico, with sales of USD$200 million and over 4,000 employees. The company plans to open 40 new restaurants in the next five years, aiming to reach 100 restaurants by 2029.

Kans Capital's investment will enable Grupo Carolo to expand its presence in the regions where it already operates and enter new markets. Currently, the company offers a diverse culinary portfolio that includes the innovative American cuisine of Eureka!, the authentic Mexican flavors of La Popular, and the Mediterranean-inspired high-end dishes of Amalfi Llama.
